23) Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno
Decent book, although I was expecting more. The writing style kind of annoyed me but it also made for an easy read. Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno is a good book about punk rock and teen angst. And I would agree with the Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist shoutout - the acknowledgements at the beginning of the book is actually in the form of a playlist or soundtrack. All of those songs are great, ... So I've finally finished another book:
7) Joe Meno - Hairstyles of the Damned (270 pages)
I read (most of) Tender as Hellfire last year and enjoyed it a fair amount. This one is crap in comparison. Meno's adopted style for this train-wreck is meandering, boring, and unlikable. That it ... ... in general than just music, but music is a huge part of it. It's very, very funny.
Also, for the young-ish crowd- Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno. I just started Joe Meno's Boy Detective Fails. I liked Hairstyles of the Damned but I never finished it. I hope this one sticks. ... by Joe Meno, who has impressed me with his ability to completely switch voices in his novels. The voice that tells Hairstyles of the Damned which was only so-so, is completely different from that which tells The Boy Detective Fails. ... much for so many wonderful suggestions! I agree that the Encyclopedia of Chicago is a treasure. My recent favorite is Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno. It's narrated by a high school boy growing up on the south side during the early '90s.
