This is a book about a black family before civil rights where made. ( )

An intense, more sober sequel to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. Has some more mature references, making it better for an older audience, but it is a good story and a good perspective of the struggles of Black Americans in years past.

The continuation of "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry", this one delves into some of the getting-older aspects of white-black interactions (white boys coming on to black girls; what happens when it's the other way around), as well as the growing pains of a young man who wants to be an adult contributor to his family's means. A wonderful book from my childhood. I would also recommend "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." ( )

Follow up to "Roll of Thunder..." and not as good. Now that I'm living in the South, the current forms of racism has become even more apparent after reading both this and "Roll of Thunder..." Glad I read it. Still a keeper. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0590981951, Paperback)

For the Logan family, it is a frightening and turbulent time. First, their friend, T.J., must go on trial for murder - and confront an all-white jury. Then Cousin Suzella tries to pass for white, with humiliating consequences. And when Cassie's neighbor, Mrs. Lee Annie, stand up for her right to vote, she and her family are driven from their home. Other neighbors are destroyed and shattered by the greed of landowners. But through it all, Cassie and the Logans stand together and stand proud - proving that courage, love, and understanding can defy even the deepest prejudice.
