Personally, I love to look at the photos in decades old cooking magazines or cookbooks like Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook. Something about the lighting or just the quality of the photos makes them so enjoyable to look at for some reason. ... track it down in hardback and Katish is both a fun, light read and has some good basic recipes. I've also recently gotten How to eat and cook in Russian.
