Pandora In the Congo by Albert Sanchez Pinol. On my TBR shelf. ... Sky series. I have read the first two; I have two in hand to read, and I have two to ferret out of the bookosphere.
Pandora in the Congo by Albert Sanchez Pinol. This novel was mentioned favorably on LibraryThing and descriptions of it were interesting enough to me to put it on the ... Bob, why don't you post your review of Pandora in the Congo on the book's page--I'd love to give it a thumbs up and think it would be great to have it accessible to others.
Also very much enjoyed your friend's review of Anathem. I keep seeing it in the library, but may have to wait for ... ... now after looking at the reactions to Heart of Darkness - which i haven't read for 40 yrs - i'm convinced that Piñol's Pandora in the Congo which I just finished, is very much an "anti" HofDarkness. Terrible behaviour, but w/out the odd redemption that's proffered Kurtz iirc. But more in Pi ... question answered - i'm not going to finish. Did start and finish Pandora in the Congo which had SFish bits tossed into its metafictional melange. Just finished Pandora in the Congo by Abert Pinol, translated from the Catalan; quite a peculiar mash-up of genres. Looked at from a distance, as it were, it's a meta-meta-fiction - a ripping tale inside a prisoner's plaint inside a courtroom case in GB circa WWI as told to a ghostwriter's ... I have just finished reading Pandora in the Congo...for the second time. The first time, about a month ago, I was astonished. The second time, this past week, I was just flabbergasted. This book reads like Edgar Rice Burroughs, H.Rider Haggard and Joseph Conrad rolled into one literary gem. It's ... ... the illustrations that would go with it. It was originally published in Catalan and recently translated and is entitled Pandora in the Congo. #2 DevourerofBooks, I have Pandora in the Congo in English (title on your wishlist was in 'foreign' ;) ). I also have Cold Skin if you're interested. I haven't read either yet but will bump them ... I reviewed Pandora in the Congo by Albert Sanchez Pinol and liked it so much I've just bought his debut novel Cold Skin. Still waiting for it to arrive from Amazon though.
For me,
Gents
Pandora in the Congo
both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I've passed Pandora on to someone else in LTER, but I'm hanging onto Gents because I want to re-read it.
I don't think I've requested any non-fiction, simply because there's not been much on the British list. Missed out this time round but got a nice package with a copy of Pandora in the Congo passed on to me by generous #51 so the sun is still shining in Milton Keynes .... well, actually it's raining.... but that just gives me a bigger excuse to stay in and read! I only finished two books in April, but they were both excellent: my ER book, Pandora in the Congo, and Persepolis, which has added to my intrigue about Iran and its history. My copy of Pandora in the Congo is now up for grabs, but the international postage is sufficiently steep that if someone outside the UK wants it, I'll have to ask for a postage contribution (it's over four pounds even for surface mail). Leave a note on my profile if you're interested.
Note for ... ... account as a book blog, mirroring the book posts on my LJ. There's only one post there at the moment, with my review of Pandora in the Congo.

None for me this time round. I'm still working my way through Pandora in the Congo from last month and am yet to receive Gents from earlier, so I'm not too disappointed. Hi BookImp. Wow, I was just checking in to see if you've reviewed Pandora in the Congo and find that it was two books ago! I think I will be adding 'Pandora' to my list, as it sounds fascinating. The "humorous and disturbing" comment has really peaked my curiosity. Having finished and loved Pandora in the Congo I'm now in Iran in the early eighties in Persepolis. I'm finding Iran and its history increasingly fascinating - Samarkand had an interesting fictionalised account of the constitutional revolution in 1906 and I'm enjoying Satrapi's account of ... ... I'll be picking up my copies of the Dexter books I hope.
Finished The Throwback and am well on the way to finishing Pandora in the Congo. So I think Malarkey by Keith Gray is next up. So, has anyone else who got Pandora in the Congo read it yet? Also had their sleep patterns disturbed by it? Now feel the need to go out and buy Cold Skin? I've nearly finished my ER book, Pandora in the Congo, which is a serious page turner! I'm enjoying it, although it wasn't quite what I expected!
Then I'm thinking of starting Persepolis, which I picked up at a fantastic indy bookshop yesterday on my way back from a job interview... I fear I' ... ... was very good, although I got a bit frustrated in places in the last third. I've spent some time in the Belgian Congo with Pandora in the Congo,a very good ER book, although now I'm back in London trying to finish picking up all the threads in the strange events that have occurred... ... border:1px solid black;"src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1841958158.01._SX140_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" />

My first ER to arrive as well. :-) Ooh, I really wanted to read Pandora in the Congo but it wasn't available here. Probably be forever before it is, too.
Pandora in the Congo by Albert Sánchez Piñol for me this month, which cheered me up as I'm still waiting for Gents from last month's batch. Not that I am short of things to read, she says looking at the result of too many visits to the dealer's room at Eastercon over the weekend... Pandora in the Congo by Albert Sanchez Pinol. First Early Reviewer book as well, can't wait.
