I updated my list to replace The Map of Love by Ahdaf Soueif with The Yacoubian Building by Alaa al Aswany as my read for Egypt. This, unfortunately, doesn't reflect great positivity on my part for The Yacoubian Building, which I didn't really enjoy, but I definitely found it a less ...

I just finished The map of love and have started Tristram Shandy So far, ok, but it's taking so long. I can image 18th century gents finding it hilarious, but it's hard to get yourself in that mindset sometimes!

I'm reading The map of love at the moment which is amazing and captivating both for its portrayal of Egypt and its presentation of romance. I'm going to Barcelona in the new year and want to re-read Homage to Catalonia before I go.

One of my friends returned a book to me today that I'd lent her six years ago. It was one of my favorite books (The Map of Love, by Ahdaf Soueif), and I knew she'd like it. Yes, it took her a long time to get to it, but she really enjoyed it, and I'm happy I could give her that experience.

... Off hand I can recall only Yasmin Zahran, Alifa Rifaat, Laila Lalami - who runs the popular "Moorish Girl" blog, and Ahdaf Soueif. I have a few titles by north North African women, which are in French. Happy reading!
