However, I'm going to take a pass on the Perrotta - I read Abstinence Teacher and really didn't like anything about it. I kept wanting to like it, but just couldn't. Even though I know I should, I really don't have any interest in giving him ... Tom Perrotta is one of my favorite authors. He wrote Little Children and The Abstinence Teacher, among others and his books are always critical and compassionate of modern life. Bad Haircut is his first book and consists of a series of chronologically arranged stories about a New Jersey ... 40.

Probably my least favorite book I read so far this year, good ideas but I wish it went a little deeper into the characters/story.. ... stimony.
I haven't been able to pick up a book this weekend, but I have Birds of America, Assassination Vacation, and The Abstinence Teacher waiting for me when I have a moment. ... TV. But, I must be too serious a reader because I found the humor a little too far-fetched for my tastes.

I read The Abstinence Teacher and I really enjoyed it. I like his writing style. I did not read Little Children but I did see the film with Kate Winslet and it was very good. The pedophile character was really creepy! #157 I read the Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perotta a while back - must have been longer ago than I realized because it isn't in my LT catalog. Anyway, I thought it was just so-so. I remember wanting to like it, but there was really nothing there. I kept waiting for something to happen, but ... 178. The ending was not nearly as dramatic as I expected with the build up to it, but overall a solid book with an interesting plot.

And, like suslyn, I too am enjoying your posts. My favourite book for January was The Abstinence Teacher 4. The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta In this brilliant state of the nation novel, the lives of Ruth and Tim intertwine. A fascinating snapshot of the impact of religion upon everyday lives. I really enjoyed this book. 5 stars.

He's written several others too, but I don't know anything about them. #159 porch_reader: I read The Abstinence Teacher by Perotta, and agree that he does tell compelling stories about interesting characters. Although I did not agree with some of the morality of the book, I would recommend it. I will have to give Election as try as well. ... place because it was a book club pick and I had vowed to read every book this year even if I knew I wouldn't like it.
