Antoine de Baecque's Glory and Terror philosophically and psychologically interprets the Reign of Terror by studying the roles of various revolutionary deaths and, more specifically, how the corresponding corpses were presented. Incontestably this is a unique approach to theorizing what certain events within the French Revolution meant to the people at the time. Whether by fault of the author or the translator (or very likely both), though, the individual essays are horribly repetitive and the syntax is atrocious. The ideas presented in this book, while fascinating, are a chore to read. ( ) no reviews | add a review
