This is the ultimate how-to-survive guide in the Dark-Hunter world created and written by New York bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

The Dark-Hunter Companion addresses the reader as a Dark-Hunter newbie, meaning that one has vowed revenge after one's untimely death by requesting the Greek goddess Artemis to grant them certain supernatural abilities. If one is unable to exact revenge within the next 24 hours, one is to serve Artemis for eternity by becoming a Dark-Hunter who kills off Daimons that prey on humans. Basically, you've sold your soul, you're some kind of an immortal, and you're in sh*t. I hope I'm getting this part right, but the disclaimer says that the book is mutable, so there's always something new or something that changes in the Dark-Hunter Companion.

Isn't that confusing? It is, unless you've read a Dark-Hunter novel by Sherrilyn Kenyon before. I've only read a couple, so this guide comes in handy. It's also useful if one has read many D.-H. novels and one has lost track of the basics or the extremely long list of who's-who in the Dark-Hunter world. The list is so long that it is broken down into categories in the companion.

Overall, this guide is highly entertaining. There are quotes throughout the guide from various Dark-Hunter books, and each chapters starts off with a full-page drawing -- a number of which are anime-like. There is also bonus content in the book of which I probably shouldn't share in this review.

Apparently, I've already mentioned too much and have endangered the Dark-Hunter world as a consequence, but this world is just way too awesome. I've read the companion very much like a novel, but it's a guide where readers can go back to read certain information when they need to. If you're a Dark-Hunter, a squire, or an overly curious civilian who would like to know about this world in order to save your own skin and keep your soul, the Dark-Hunter Companion is an absolute must. Ever wanted to understand the Atlantean language? Want an insider's guide to the world that is the Dark-Hunter universe? Then you don't want to miss this.
This is THE official handbook given to all new Dark-Hunters once they cross over and it's chock full of nitty-gritty details, including some never before known tidbits.

It also includes deleted scenes from the novels and an excerpt as well as the short story Second Chances and it has a whole section on how to be Greek (as in the country of Greece not a frat or sorority). It also has interviews with Sherri, Acheron and Simi.

Kenyon gives us an encyclopedia of the Dark Hunters and their world. Very useful for fans. ( )

Despite not being a romance novel, this companion to the Dark-Hunter series is full of detail and only flags near the end, with the recipe sections. The section on New Orleans almost reads like a tourism brochure, but the "deleted scentes" is a nice touch. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0312363435, Paperback)

Consider this handbook your education.  Hunter 101.  And don’t go thinking you got off easy just because there’s not a pop quiz at the end.  This is the good stuff. The real deal.  In here you’ll find out all there is to know about being a Dark-Hunter.

Now for the disclaimer: This book is mutable. It goes with the wind.  It changes more often than the mind of a sixteen-year-old Gemini with a closet full of clothes and a date in an hour.  Don’t be surprised if you open it up for the thirty-five thousandth time and find something old, something new, something borrowed or. . .well you get the point.

Curl up in a comfy chair with some millennium-old scotch and feast upon the informative banquet I have prepared for your enjoyment.

Welcome to your new life.
