An entertaining read, kept me going to the end but not not a real page turner for me.
Would still recommend it though. ( )

Great mystery.....

You Wake up
Your House is Empty
Your Family as Disappeared
Without a Trace.........

Once you figure out what is going on (a little to early), it becomes an OMG moment and you have to read the rest in one sitting. ( )

One of my favourite Barclay books. The premise was great and the action kept me hanging in until the very last page. ( )

Cynthia Biggs is a typical rebellious teenager. At 14 she likes to party and one morning after a night of drinking with her friend, Vince Fleming, she wakes up to find that her family has vanished.
25 years later, she's married to Terry Archer and has a daughter, Grace, age 8. Cinthia and Terry return to Cinthia's childhood home with a TV crew to do a story asking for help in finding the missing family.

Because of what happened to her family, Cinthia is uneasy about Grace when out of her sight so she walks Grace to school. One day, she tells Terry that she thinks someone in a brown car has been following her.

The tension in the story mounts as the reader wonders if Chnthia is unbalanced. She finds her father's hat in her kitchen, then sees a person she's sure is her brother, Todd, and when she rushes up to him, he says his name is Jeremy Sloan and lives upstate, New York. Finally, she gets a tip about the car her family was in and where it might be found.

With nail biting tension, the reader wonders how the author can make all these things make sense. Barclay does it well in the fast paced conclusion to this thriller.
Excellent character descriptions, sympathetic characters, good setting and a story told with such emotion that the reader feels they are part of the crowd, watching things unfold.
Highly Recommended. ( )

Quite the thrill ride. I enjoyed the book immensely. I would compare to Harlan Coben. ( )

An intense and gripping tale with a marvellous plot that is intriguing. I wanted to know what had happened to her family and bits of information are drip fed at a pace to keep you interested. For me it was spoilt a little by the unnecessary complications to the plot that made it less believable. A Dan Brown type of novel, very cinematic and fast moving.

An exceptional thriller. Barclay writes about events that could possibly happen, which makes you want to read it even more. What if you woke up after a huge disagreement with your family and they were gone, just disappeared? After twenty-five years later, you are married and still trying to cope with what had happened in your past. Why? Alive? Murdered? Then, all these "strange" things happen, which lead you to think you just might just be a little crazy... I have to say it was really hard to put this book down. Thumbs up! ( )

A well-plotted thriller which keeps you guessing until the end. A teenage girl goes to bed one night and the next morning her family has disappeared without trace. Many years later, married, she is still haunted by the memory and attempts to find out what really happened, which is when her problems really start. Despite a slight flagging of the pace in the middle section, as the truth of what happens begins to emerge, the pace picks up into a great finale. Recommended. ( )

Predictable mystery. I loved this right up until I was half-way through, then it quickly went into decline, and I found myself rushing to the finish line. Weak ending, but for the most part, the book kept me entertained. ( )

The three of them - they were just gone. Cynthia Bigge was just 14-years-old when her parents and older brother vanished without a trace and were never to be seen again. Now, as a married parent herself, Cynthia continues to struggle with their disappearance, so she appears on a television show with the hopes of spurring memories. Soon after, strange things begin to happen, like an odd phone call and an unexpected token left in their home. Cynthia wonders if her family could possibly still be alive.

Hooray! I believe I have found another author to follow. While this book had its share of coincidences and just right fits, the characters (mainly Terry, Cynthia's husband) kept me from doing too many eye rolls. He had a slight sense of humor and seemed the most realistic of the bunch. The story line did have some twists that were unexpected and ultimately - I thought it was a very good book. (4/5)

I really like this book. It really kept me on the edge of my seat. It had a surprise ending. ( )

This was a quick read. Which was a good thing because I would not want to spend much time with such uninspired writing and such a tired formulaic plot.

I thought the father was a morally ambiguous, despicable slime-ball.

What a twist this one turned out to be! I found it a bit slow getting started, but once it did, I was totally absorbed. Can you imagine??? What thoughts would be going through your mind if you woke up one day and your family was gone! Vanished in the night! How would that affect you? That's what happened to Fourteen-year old Cynthia Bigge. Then twenty-five years later, she's married with a daughter of her own, and the events of her past are coming back to haunt her. She participates in a Cold Case type TV show and odd things start to happen. Is she losing her mind? Is she somehow behind these events? Or is it something else altogether. You'll just have to read it to find out! I definitely enjoyed the different twists this one took and if you like a good mystery, you will too! ( )

One morning 14-year-old Cynthia woke to find that her parents and older brother had disappeared. Now, twenty-five years later, she is about to learn the truth. Cynthia is married and has a young daughter. But she is still haunted by the past and is obsessed with finding out what happened to her family. She appears on a cold case TV show and strange things start to happen that push her towards a resolution of what happened 25 years ago. ( )

Read in one sitting (albeit on a plane) so can't be that bad. Nothing to stretch the boundaries of contemporary literature, but an enjoyable and gripping read nontheless. The printed equivalent of a pacey hollywood thriller - great while it lasts but, ultimately, forgettable. Certainly worth a read though. A good holiday book. Would make a good film (won't be long I'm sure) ( )
