A really lovely book - it shows how important friendship is and that with strength and determination that love can make change happen. ( )

Every time I read this book to my fourth or fifth -grade students, someone would say, "Ms. Likins, you're crying." And every time, I'd notice some of them were too and go on reading. The story about a child that refuses to accept her neighbor's family being evicted from their apartment and onto the street is timelessly relevant, even if you might feel the need to explain ahead of time about her taking fifteen cents for a popsicle and a call in a phone booth. I imagine most of my now-grown-up student still remember the story. ( )
