Better than the last one ( ) First, regarding the cover: it's the same as the hardcover & Kindle editions. This is the 12th in the Scrapbooking Mystery series starting Carmella & Ava. You might think these are getting stale after so many with the same main characters but you would be wrong. Ms. Childs still entertains with her stories set in New Orleans. In this story Carmella has found another body, this time the man who runs the business next to hers. And because it was someone she knew, and his employee begged him to find out who did it, of course Carmella must investigate a bit. There are so more suspects then there are cemeteries in New Orleans. So which one did it. I have to admit I was a little surprised...but that could be because I was so caught up in the descriptions of the food, the atmosphere and of course the Scrapbooking. Those are what Ms. Child's excels at - giving the reader a taste (pun intended) of The Big East. The only problem - and I have to admit is getting stronger with each book - is Carmella's boyfriend Babcock. I just don't like him/trust him. Really hoping Carmella will see the light with a certain restaurateur. That or a new guy. What better place to celebrate Halloween than in New Orleans with Carmela and her voodoo friend Ava? Carmela finds the proprietor in the shop next door to Memory Mine dead. When Carmela learns that the death mask of Napoleon may be involved, she accepts the shop assistant's request to help find the murderer. The Halloween backdrop and the events involved - zombie walk, Ghost train - just add to the story and the fun of the mystery. no reviews | add a review

"An evening's work deciding on the class schedule for her scrapbooking shop has put Carmela in the mood to kick up her heels. But after some strange noises draw her into Oddities , the neighboring antiques shop, Carmela's night is abruptly put on hold when a bloody body falls out of a curio cabinet --and into her arms. While shop owner Marcus Joubert was known for being an eccentric with a penchant for eclectic merchandise, Carmela never thought he was the kind of man who could inspire the passion required to kill. But when Marcus's assistant--and fiancee-Mavis reveals that a priceless death mask was also stolen, it becomes clear that murder wasn't the culprit's sole intention. Carmela can't resist the urge to investigate the growing mystery, but as the list of suspects increases, she realizes it'll take every trick in the book to unmask the killer thief before there's another night of murderous mischief.."-- No library descriptions found. |
