My favorite romances were If you Dare by Kresley Cole and The Hollow by Nora Roberts.

At the moment, I am reading The Power Makers by Maury Klein and The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart. Enjoying them both!

I was thrown for a loop recently while reading The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart, about Merlin and Arthur, and Stewart several times referred to the fields of corn in the English countryside. All that research she did and she had no idea that corn didn't get introduced to Europe until after the Am ...

I'm taking a little break from The Hollow Hills, which I do enjoy but for some reason takes a lot of effort, and have started Ella Minnow Pea. Can a book with such a dire message be called fun? It is, and takes a lot of effort in a different way (all those big new words!)

... I did like the switch in POV at the end of the story and the revelation that comes with it. Now mainly reading The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart.

#48 sandragon - I loved Mary Stewart's Merlin books, especially the first two - The Crystal Cave and The Hollow Hills. Unfortunately, the last two aren't as good.

... of God by David Quammen, nonfiction about maneating beasts and their relationships with humanity in history and today, or The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart, second in her books about Merlin. I'm also listening to Inkspell by Cornelia Funke and reading the first Harry Potter with my 7yo.

Have you read Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy: The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, The Last Enchantment? I also found Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon an interesting interpretation of the Arthurian legend. I read another of her books (don't remember the title) and didn' ...

... The Once and Future King, Le Morte D'Arthur, Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Idylls of the King and The Hollow Hills. Of course, I was spurred on by having gone to see Camelot with my high school buddies. I used to know ALL the words to ALL the songs. If you hear ...

I'd second any of the Stewart books. I agree with katylit - she defines Merlin for me. And Hollow Hills is one of my perenial re-reads. I think it holds up admirably.

2007, I picked 150 books to read. However, the last Harry Potter book completely ruined things for me and I had to desire to pick up another book until recently. I got around 50, if I was lucky (see http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.php?topic=6899). So, I'm not going to bite off more than I ...

... L'Engle. Maybe I missed it, but has nobody mentioned the Earthsea books? And Mary Stewart's Arthur series (The Hollow Hills, etc.) are excellent.

My favorite are the Mary Stewart books : The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, and The Last Enchantment. There is a fourth book, The Wicked Day, but I've not read it so I don't know whether it's any good or not.

I'm currently reading Murder After Hours (aka The Hollow) by Agatha Christie, but I just finished reading Ophelia by Lisa Klein which I adored. I have to go back and re-read Hamlet now, though!

Yes, The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills. I haven't gotten ahold of The Last Enchantment yet. "Dry" is not the right word, but she is quite sparing with the fantastic elements; the strength of the books is historical realism.

... novels I like best by Rosemary Sutcliff, Sword at Sunset, and Mary Stewart's Merlin novels The Crystal Cave The Hollow Hills The Last Enchantment The Wicked Day (though that one is really a Mordred novel), which are I guess more 'realistic?' tellings, with some reference to ...
