When Gabriella's whole clan is murdered she takes on the identity of her twin brother, Gabriel, and travels to her mother's clan to seek help so that she may revenge their death. This book, and those that follow, are really, really, really good. They're all out print, but well worth the effort in finding a copy. ( )

Book description
Gabria, sole survivor of Clan Corin's massacre, must break her people's most sacred laws and customs to survive long enough to avenge her clan's murder.

Yet her first and most important ally is Nara, the huge Hunnuli mare, traditionally the uncorruptible mounts of great warriors and mages. Her friendship won through Gabria's acts of selfless courage and kindness, Nara's revelations and Gabria's deeds will rock Clan beliefs to their foundations and reshape their world
