2410 Midcentury Journey: The Western World Through Its Years of Conflict, by William L. Shirer (read 15 Sep 1991) I bought this book for a nickel at a rummage sale. It is a 1952 book which Shirer wrote after a 1950 trip to Europe. He was a foreign correspondent from 1925 till 1950, and I have read his books on the rise and fall of the Third Reich, and on the fall of France. This book was written before he wrote those books, and is journalistic, opinionated, and not really perceptive. I should have read it in 1952--I would have gobbled it up. I really don't think it was worth my time to read it, but I did not want my 5 cents to go to waste. ( )
