ETA -- yes Skellig was yummy too, but so short and breezy it didn't seem to count somehow... or at the very least it didn't satisfy the "I wanna' read something good" yearning. Interesting to hear of your reading of David Almond. I have heard that Skellig is a small masterpiece and should not be confined to YL. I haven't read it myself, though.
Great reads, Whisper. The Tim O'Brien book sounds well worthwhile also. Just in case anyone else is trying to locate the book, it's Skellig and yes, it is very well written, Whisper! Bk 12 Skellig by Almond, 142 pp. -- What a strange and wonderful little book. I didn't mean to read this today, but I did. And I'm glad. If I were one who rated books this would get a 4/5, and that only because, if I were a book rater, 5s would be exceedingly difficult to come by. Just to add, the reason the touchstone didn't come up for Skellig is due to a typo. Excellent book--I really do have to look up Almond's other work. Happy 2009!
