Hilarious book. You probably need to be a baby boomer, and thus remember all the crappy songs, to fully appreciate it. ( )

A great book, if you aren't prone to getting bad songs stuck in your head. It's a lot of fun to hear tales of songs that are supposedly popular that people really can't stand. ( )

Run, don't walk, to get this book. Despite Dave's warnings at the beginning of the book (DO NOT TURN THIS PAGE!!), read it. Ignore everyone who looks at you as though you are losing your mind as you laugh out loud every few seconds. Chase down those folks who are trying to escape you as you HAVE to read one paragraph after another out loud to them so they can see what you're laughing about!

Then try to get those songs out of your head. Those awful, horrible songs you perpetually keep buried in the deep dark recesses of your subconscious because it just HURTS to much to think about them - and once you think about them they go 'round and 'round and 'round in your head for days on end! ("Songs she sang to me, songs she brang to me...")

Says Dave, "I've never written a column that got a bigger response than the one announcing the Bad Song Survey. More than ten thousand readers voted..." This little book is the result. Dave (and his readers/survey respondents) rip up Weenie Music, Love Songs, Songs Women Really Hate, Teen Death Songs, and, ultimately, Songs People Get Wrong. I DARE you to read this and NOT laugh!

I DARE you to read this and listen to "Help Me Rhonda" without hearing "owls pukin' in (your) bed"!!!! ( )

Read at your own risk. I guarantee you will winding up humming some song that you HATE after reading this book. I loved it. ( )

I laughed until I cried. I am, apparently, of a similar vintage to Mr. Barry, and grew up with the same songs. While I don't hate all of his listings, I quite understand others' loathing of the songs that were sang to me, songs that were brang to me. ( )

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. As Barry says, "song badness" is apparently a topic that people care about a *lot*. And how can we not? In a world where Neil Diamond has made a living confessing his innermost feelings to a cruelly unresponsive chair, it is our pleasure, nay, our *duty* to mock.

I only know about 20% of the songs in this book which, judging from what Dave Barry writes about them, is a good thing. But for that reason it's not half as entertaining or funny for me as his other books.
Being that ignorant to those examples of crappy music is probably due to the fact that I'm younger than Barry and didn't grow up in the US.
The songs I do know are actually songs I quite like (with the notable exception of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself"), but growing up not knowing a word of English, it has never been about the lyrics for me, naturally, but just catchy tunes. To which I usually sang some made up words that sounded like the real thing. So for years "She's Got It" was "Schiissgarette" in my world. Which is funny if you know Swiss German. Or "In The Army Now" became "Indiominau"... which doesn't mean anything at all in any language I know.
So the easier the lyrics, the happier I was because I could boast in front of my friends about knowing a foreign language by heart. So naturally, I like the last chapter in the book best, "Songs People Get Wrong". ( )

The book is as good as these songs are bad -- and believe me, these songs are really, really bad.
