I finished Sorry on the bus home, and found it very moving, even if I was a bit disappointed in the ending. But so beautiful overall, it's still recommended. (Although don't read it in ... ... of them.

In other words, I'm still reading Sorry on the bus, The Book Thief in bed, and Mr Bear & I have *one* chapter left on The Secret Garden. I told him we could buy another book (maybe one with Robin Hood, ... I finished Sorry by Gail Jones very very late Saturday night; now enjoying The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney. I was up till 3 this morning finishing Sorry. We're pathetic. ;o) ... Fantastic. Quirky characters but with depth and self examination.

And was going to start Sorry by Gail Jones this morning (one of the Miles Franklin short-listed books, DrCris has organised bookrings for them all), but the miserable weather in Sydney meant ... ... love.
It's a deceptively light novel that is quite tender about love and loss and growing up. Stories within stories.

56. Sorry by Gail Jones
This didn't grab me. The characters were abstract, the plot boring. The writing too flowery and overly poetic. This seems to me a rather academic attempt to apologize for the way the aboriginal people were treated by the whites in the form of a novel. Don't know why I ... Finished Sorry by Gail Jones over the weekend, it certainly is one of the best books I've read thus far this year. 27. Sorry by Gail Jones
Sorry is the story of Perdita, an unwanted child of a unhappy couple living in northwest Australia after the first World War. Perdita's father ... yay for short books! reading Sorry now (well, not right at this moment). I seem to have both feet firmly planted in Australia. One, in northwest Australia post WWII still with Gail Jones's Sorry, and the other in New South Wales with The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville. The Grenville is a reread, the book was one of my favorites a few years ago. Finished A New England Tale which I found interesting (review posted on the book's page), now setting out to finish Sorry by Gail Jones, a short, lyrical book set in Western Australia in post WWII Western Australia. I'm in Norhtwestern Australia in Sorry by Gail Jones. Reading Sorry by Gail Jones at the moment. As with a previous book of hers read, the prose is lovely. Earlier this week from The Book Depository in the UK:
Voices, the third mystery in the series by Arnaldur Indridason
Sorry by Gail Jones (I have her previous two books)
Swiftly by Adam Robert (his latest)
notice they are all one word titles. . .
On the same day from Amazon:
Dark I ... ... did an Elizabeth Strout collection, and three books from the UK (including the 3rd Indridason mystery and Gail Jones's Sorry). Unfortunately, my pleasure reading is currently limited to late nights and weekends. . . (well, 3 out of 7 touchstones...) >17
Will do, avaland. I'll put it next on my list. I have a couple of books going at the moment but hopefully I'll get to Sorry next week for you. ... writers on the Miles Franklin Award (Australia) longlist for 2008 are:
Orpheus Lost, Janette Turner Hospital
Sorry, Gail Jones, Vintage (Random House Australia)
On this year's nomination list for the National Book Critics Circle Award (USA) were:
Joyce Carol Oa ... I ordered Sorry and have placed a few on my wish list. I really wanted to pick up Monster Love after reading some reviews on it, but couldn't bring myself to spend over $30 US to get it from the UK (am I whining?). I doubt I'll have anything read before the shortlist is announced, some years I'm ... ... on Their Backs by Linda Grant
The Master Bedroom by Tessa Hadley
Fault Lines by Nancy Huston
Sorry by Gail Jones
The Outcast by Sadie Jones
The Voluptuous Delights of Peanut Butter and Jam by Lauren Liebenberg
When We Were Bad by Charlot ... I have a copy of Sorry at home but I haven't read it yet. This may bump it up the TBR pile a bit. I work in a bookshop and The Memory Room was a huge seller this Christmas. From all reports it's excellent.
