The book includes "moments" of his writing--the shorter stories, and extracts from the longer books. A nice volume, but not a complete collection. In fact, I would say it's not a good place to start with Roald Dahl as I believe the longer books are really his best work (thus the 3 stars here and not more). This book includes some of Roald Dahl's poetry (such as his hilarious fairy tale retellings), short stories, excerpts from his children's novels, recipes, letters from fans, and other nice little snippets, like a sheet Dahl filled out about his birthday, favourite colour, food, etc. While it's not a replacement for reading the complete works of Roald Dahl, it is a lovely tribute to him and a good selection of his works. Personal tributes from some people who knew him well combine with excerpts from his longer books and full-text of some of his shorter works, including some items previously unpublished. It is a real treat for anyone who loves the wry English wit of Dahl and the quirky illustrations of Quentin Blake, a treasure to read time and time again. Roald Dahl is a genius. You must pick up one of his short stories and enjoy every bit of it. This collection is a wonderful selection of stories, with 1 or 2 of my favorites. I would say this would be an excellent place to start to get to know Dahl, if you have never picked up any of his books. Remember... he is the author of such great works as "James and the Giant Peach" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Pure genius. no reviews | add a review

This is a great collection because it contains new Quentin Blake illustrations and contains stories like "The Minpins" that are harder to find. ( )
