The Borrible Trilogy by Michael De Larrabeit ... ... Lloyd Alexander, but I'd never come across anyone who used words the way she does. I looked for more of her work and found The Riddlemaster of Hed -- at that time I think only the first two books of the trilogy had been published. It's a long time later and I still haven't found anyone else who ... Patricia McKillip's trilogy: The Riddlemaster of Hed, Heir of Sea and Fire and Harpist in the Wind. She is mostly doing standalones these days but these were the first of her books that I read and still among my favorites. You don't see the FS do much Fantasy and even less Sci-Fi. But if they did, I'd love to see Patricia McKillip's Riddlemaster of Hed trilogy, maybe Stranger in a Strange Land, or The Dosadi Experiment.
In historical fiction, I would think that Morgan Llywelyn's work would be right down ... ... them. Since I'm going to be dividing up omnibuses anyway, I might as well start now, right?
So, in light of that, #37 is The Riddle-Master of Hed by Patricia McKillip. I actually found it pretty boring; I didn't much care for Morgon or Deth, and I didn't really get why every person Morgon ... ... Fool trilogies

I think whoever suggested Patricia McKillip's Riddle-Master of Hed and Diane Duane's Young Wizards' series is right on the money.
What about Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy? My worst reads this year, and it was a big year for bad books for me. I pretty much finish everything I start.

There's a lot of different fantasy out there, I wouldn't give up after trying just two. I love Patricia McKillip also although I have only read the Riddle-master of Hed. I just re-read the entire EarthSea series by Ursula Le Guin, so she is one of my favorites as well.
Other than that my favorites are Michael Moorcock for his Eternal Hero series and the oldies like ...
