““I Believe;”: Exploring the Apostle’s Creed” is a practical study of the Apostles Creed written by Alister McGrath. It is a lighter read compared to many of his other theology books but it is not a book to take lightly. McGrath does a tremendous job of breaking down and explaining the Apostles Creed, he covers the original importance, historical significance and development of the creed yet this is not the point of “I Believe.” McGrath uses his explanation and exploration of the Creed as a vehicle to get to the practical implications of the Creed. It’s within the last pages of each chapter that McGrath changes the book from a typical discussion of the Creed to a book that becomes an applicable exercise in Christian life steaming from proper theological understanding. McGrath successfully brings the Creed from the realm of Christian thought into the realm of daily Christian life. He achieves the rare success of making the Creed livable instead of only thinkable.

Two groups of people should read “I Believe”, those who want a basic explanation of the creed and those who want a basic application of the creed. “I Believe” is designed with small group bible study in mind; each chapter has questions for group discussion, which help widen the appeal of the book.
