... potent blend of Toni Morrison and Cormac McCarthy. Simply incredible and worthy of the Pulitzer. I also wrapped up After the Quake by Haruki Murakami. It's a collection of stories about people dealing (more psychological) with the after-effects, of a major earthquake. It's a good ...

After the Quake, Adam Bede was out running After Dark, All Around Town trying to remember when life had been full of All Things Bright and Beautiful.

#10 and #13, thank for the comments on Murakami...Tim has After the Quake and afka on the Shore so I will give one of them a go. I don't do magical realism though!! (Perhaps I should open my mind a crack).

... such a strange wonderful journey, that I didn't care. I'm now reading a slim volume of short stories by Murakami called After the Quake and it's pretty decent so far.

... Canning ! Next up: The Known World by Edward P. Jones. It's a Pulitzer winner from 2004. I also plan to squeeze in After the Quake by Haruki Murakami, it's a slim short story collection. My Murakami quest continues!

All of the stories in After the Quake are good: Murakami is a pro, and he remains the best there is (though Paul Auster is a contender) at seamlessly blending the mundane and the uncanny. The stories I like the best are the ones that seem—I stress: seem—to owe the most to the simple ...

15 After the Quake by Haruki Murakami. Loved these stories, almost as much as Norwegian Wood. Reviewed it so won't go on about it any more here!

I am looking forward to hearing what you think of After The Quake - this for me was the best of his short story collections. In fact, after finishing it I turned straight back to the front and started reading it again.

#56: After the Quake by Haruki Murakami. I actually finished a book of short stories--unfortunately, it wasn't one of the many I already owned & needed to complete. :) I found these stories to be generally less enigmatic (and somewhat simpler) than the stories in Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman. ...

... ll-written. Oh, and I started Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (not on the list, I know, but I also have After the Quake out from the library, to be read if I like the latter.) Seems okay so far, but then, I'm only a chapter or so in.

I finished Haruki Murakami's short story collection After the Quake yesterday and just finished Yasunari Kawabata's "The Old Capital" a few minutes ago. Both very good.

I'm 2/3 or so the way through Murakami's short sotries, After the Quake. Not as good as The Elephant Vanishes.

on Murakami, I enjoyed immensely The Elephant Vanishes but I'm finding After the Quake less exciting. The freshest, most imaginitive, most original short stories I've read in years though were Victor Pelevin's The Blue Lantern.

I've just started Murakami's After the Quake. I need a Murakami fix after a few months away and I was in the mood for some short stories too.
