And finally, even though it's not a biography of an individual, I recommend The Harlem Globetrotters: An Illustrated History by ... I've read the The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien about a dozen times, and I consistently return to the Conan stories by Robert E. Howard. I also love the Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. I don't get to play Dungeons and Dragons nearly as much as I'd like, and I tend to pick up a late-80s, ... ... fan today than fantasy, I have to admit that I am one of the legion who were introduced to "speculative literature" through JRR Tolkien. I quickly followed that introduction with a spate of novels, especially series (Conan, Gor novels, Pern, Piers Anthony books, Edgar Rice Burroughts, ... Stephen King

He just strikes me as someone old before his time, kind of fussy and prissy, stuffy. Maybe it's just The Letters which make me think that. It's a non-caffeine day so far, so I can't recall if I know anything about his younger years -- although that public school life does ...
