The Bayeux Tapestry is unique, not only by virtue of its age, but also because it is an artistic and cultural testimonial which gives a startling insight into people's lives in the late Viking Age. The 70-meter-long tapestry is illustrated here in its entirety. This offers a fairly traditional view of the Bayeux tapestry and the events it depicts, with a lot of description and quotes from the main sources and not much analysis of those sources or of wider events. Where it excels though is in its full reproduction of the entire embroidery at one sixth scale, which makes it large enough to see detail, without the book being too large. ( )
