Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wyn ... I'm reading my gorgeous Persephone Books (a possibly posh publisher in London) "The Making of a Marchioness" and The Hobbit (it was raining last weekend so K and I stayed in for an LoR Marathon)
The first book I remember reading was The Hobbit when I was 6 years old. But I had a full set of Oz books at the same time and I'm sure I read them ... just not sure if before or after JRR. I also had Big Red, Black Beauty, and a ton of other books.

No problem, everybody has different tastes (thank goodness!!!, how vanilla the world would be otherwise). But Tolkien, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings especially, have a very, very special place in my heart. The other books are a delight too, but those 2 (4?) are foremost. The Hobbit would still be under copyright.
It will be subject to UK law, since it was first published here. The law here is that copyright subsists in a work of literature for 70 years after the author's death.
