he main idea is this book is family. The mama is the story is constantly saying “What a pity.” She is getting frustrated that the entire family is not eating dinner together every night. The book shows how it is important for families to have dinner together and enjoy each other’s company. I really liked this book because it is relatable to all students while also being multicultural. The book is about a Spanish family and incorporates Spanish culture foods and language. ( )

The illustrations are very much like a book about a party given to children after the liberation of a concentration camp, perhaps because they are by the same illustrator.

story about lunchtime in a Spanish family; every day someone is missing and Mama is disappointed, until she has the baby and it's everyone else's turn to be disappointed.

Spanish in the book is not noticeably Iberian (no "vosotros") but the foods mentioned (paella, sopa de garbanzos) certainly are ( )

A lovely story illustrated by the illustrator of 'Possum Magic'.

An extended family in Spain sits down each day to eat lunch together. But despite the wonderful meals on offer, Mama can never get everyone at the table at the same time. A simple story that explores food and families. ( )
