... Waters. Affinity is one of the most moving books I have ever read. I almost cried at the end. Right now I am reading Away by Amy Bloom. I highly recommend it.

I've finished reading Away by Michael Gow. This is a fine example of Australian theatre and I really enjoyed reading it. Despite being set on holidays, this play is actually about coming home. Coral's illness, Tom's knowledge of his fate, Gwen's attitude to life - all are things which set ...

I'm misbehaving and reading three books at once -- far more than my usual number. Up this week are Amy Bloom's Away, Millie's Fling by Jill Mansell and Jane Green's Mr. Maybe. Away will probably be the first one done!

... all to the characters or story (was there even a story?--It seemed like nothing happened). I had the same problem with Away.

My list of books to look at/buy is now in my library under, appropriately enough, Wish List.

I'm loving Away loosha and enjoyed Map of Glass tremendously, so I'll definitely be getting more of Urquhart's books. Looks like The Underpainter will be next on my list - thanks for the recommendation :-) She's a wonderful writer! I love finding great new authors (new to me that is). I ...

I lovedAway, but my favourite of Urquhart was The Underpainter. I'm beginning a re-read of Late Nights on Air. Even better the second time.

29. Away by Amy Bloom. OK, this is from the back cover: "...moves from the gaudy, harsh world of New York's Lower East Side in 1925 to the adventures and pleasures of the jazz underworld and the Alaskan frontier--as the unexpected heroine, Lillian Leyb, pursues her daughter..." SPOIL ...

I think I'm going to take myself away with the book Away by Amy Bloom.

1.5. Away. I tried really hard and just can't connect with this book, and it feels tedious to me, so I'm dropping it 100 pages in. 2. Iodine. Very interesting book. Still not sure what to think of it; I'm not sure I'll have my mind made up on it until I read through it again.

... this year, i plan on reading all of the books that are on the top of my wishlist and putting the others aside. next up: away by Amy Bloom, home by marilynne robinson, and the emperor's children by claire messud.

O, torontoc.........we read Away in book club years ago and were mesmerized by it. What did you think? I finished Felicia's Journey yesterday afternoon. Such a gripping, intense novel, about lonliness, desperation, and hope. I read The American Dream and The Zoo Story, two dramas by ...

76. Away by Jane Urquhart I have read most of Urquhart's later novels. This early one is written beautifully although the characters didn't have lot of appeal to me. To reveal why would give away most of the story. Let me just say that bad choices were made and those under spells didn't have ...

I just finished The Likeness and really enjoyed it. I'm also reading Away by Amy Bloom. I've been reading that for awhile. I'll read a chapter and then not go back to it for a week or so. Last night I started The Emporer's Children.

Someone at a Distance by Dorothy Whipple Away by Amy Bloom The Deadly Space Between by Patricia Duncker Behind the scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel

I bought Away by Amy Bloom. I went to an author's festival, heard her read and bought a copy that she signed.

I just left Dawson City with Away by Amy Bloom and am deciding between The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill -West Africa, London, South Carolina, Nova Scotia- and Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill-Montreal.

Finished Away by Amy Bloom. Next to read are Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill and The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. I think that Hill's book was released with a different title in the US.

56. Away by Amy Bloom. I thought that this book would be about immigrants and the life they led when they first arrived in the United States. But it is really an adventure story and journey. The narration is good but a little detached. The main part of the story is the travelling that the ...

Just finished Granta 98 The Deep End and am now in the middle of Away by Amy Bloom.

I love most of Timothy Findley's work. I also love Jane Urquhart, especiallyA Map of Glass and Away. One of the best Canadian books I've ever read was Random Passage by Bernice Morgan. And for something a little off-beat, but quintessentially Canadian, I highly recommend Th ...

>121 I read and loved Away many years ago. This one is quite different, but I love her writing and, so far, the story.

Jane Urquhart is a real favorite of mine. You might want to try her novel Away, too, if you haven't already.

Read Away by Amy Bloom which is a story that is very hard to believe, but has an interesting and touching and brave heroine. I thought the writing was wonderful, but the story stretched my willing suspension of disbelief. Spoiler: Going across the Bering Straits and trekking through Ala ...

#10. Away by Amy Bloom. I did so hope for a different ending.

... recommended by a fellow Canadian bookworm, it's a beautiful hardcover, in pristine condition, I just couldn't pass it up Away by Jane Urquhart because I enjoyed A Map of Glass so tremendously Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. I tried reading this years ago and just couldn't get into it. ...

... In fact, I know it is hard to compare short stories vs. novel but I like it much better than Amy Bloom's acclaimed Away. I mentioned last week that I was reading Geraldine Brooks's The People of the Book, but I set it aside when I picked up Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy ...

... I usually try to have at least one fiction and one non-fiction (most often history) going at the same time. I read Away last year, finally getting it out of my TBR pile where it had languished for years. Liked it pretty well. Am open to suggestions as to the next Urquhart book I ...

... Suit (touchstone not loading) by Lucette Lagnado (interesting story, but not as well written as I had hoped), Away by Amy Bloom (not what I expected but a lovely book), and The Last Chicken in America by Ellen Litman (not as good as the title). Now I'm reading Red Rover ...

The Lizard Cage, Away and A Month in the Country. I've also been inspired by LT to fill in some big gaps of the classics that I never got around to reading in years past. (Grapes of Wrath, anything by Jane Austen). I've added many titles to my TBR list solely because of LT!

... My goal for this year is 80, of which I've read 64. Yay! 1. And Then He Kissed Her by Laura Lee Guhrke 2. Away by Amy Bloom I have to admit I didn't particularly care for this book--lovely writing, but a mostly depressing story with lots of depressing sex. 3. Away La ...

Just finished Away: a novel and posted the review. I appreciate the opportunity to get a sneak preview of this book, I thought it was excellent!

Just finished Away: a novel by Amy Bloom. Stellar novel. Just cracked open Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: a Year of Food Life, Barbara Kingsolver's new nonfiction. I've been waiting for this one for awhile.

... present day. At the same time I was reading about the late 19th/early 20th century there, Lillian, the main character in Away: a novel by Amy Bloom was arriving in 1925 Seattle. I was going back and forth between the two and thoroughly enjoying the synchronicity.

I finished Away by Amy Bloom last night and just posted my first LT review. My friend gave me On Chesil Beach this evening, so I'm going to go start it now.

... fall. I picked up more than I could carry at BEA, and have started to work my way through them. My best so far has been Away: a novel and my least favorite was the new Alice Sebold, The Almost Moon. Anyone else found anything exciting/disappointing?

>59 - I loved Away: a novel. It's probably the favorite book I've read all year. I found it fresh and original; I hope you like it too!

Away: a novel by Amy Bloom -- arrived (late) via Random House for early review.

I posted my review of Amy Bloom's Away this morning. The bulk of book reviews are summaries, but I'm not one to retell the story. I feel folks can get that information from the cover &/or publishing reviews. What I like to do with my reviews is discuss the writer's style, intent, themes, etc.. ...

I just left 1920s NY and traveled to Seattle in Amy Bloom's Away.

... Way We Live Now by Anthony Trollope, which was satirical and witty, and yet at heart a romance. I'm about to start Away by Amy Bloom.

I'm in the Midwest and I just got my copy of Amy Bloom's Away yesterday.
