Third in the Lydia Chin/Bill Smith detective series.
In this installment, Lydia is hired to take a ransom payment to a blackmailer and thief who has stolen Genna Jing's design sketches. When Lydia is shot at and the money disappears, Lydia and her partner Bill are fired from the case.
Several twists and turns involving the designer's sister, a model agency/prostitution ring, and a Chinatown sweatshop owner begin to complicate matters.
What always makes the novels in this series so engaging is the ever-evolving relationship between Lydia and Bill. A smart mystery novel, clever and full of intriguing and intelligent plotlines.

Very good dialogue--setting (Chinatown and New York City in general) interesting. Story not as important as the individuals ( )

Amazon.com Amazon.com Review (ISBN 0312962835, Mass Market Paperback)

Lydia Chin, Rozan's sharp, funny and sexy detective who operates out of New York's Chinatown, is back in action in this lively story about the fashion industry -- from the glamorous designer studios to the sweatshops where illegal immigrants do the dirty work. Lydia knows the sweatshop scene well: her mother worked in one while she was growing up. Now she and her sometimes dangerous partner, Bill Smith, have to find out who will do anything -- including murder -- to keep a young designer from launching her new company. (Previous Lydia Chin books are China Trade and Concourse.)
