Somehow Ghost Orchid Carol Goodman slipped in ahead of my other tbr's. Next I think I'll start Tipperary Frank Delaney or Twilight Stephenie Meyer.
... just did a bit of snooping and I have to say I was shocked to see that after a year there are only 57 reviews for the book Tipperary , even though ER members were give 100 copies of the book. I'm pretty sure a decent percentage of those reviews are from folks who bought that book on their own. Th ...
I joined Early Reviewers at the very beginning and received Tipperary . I've requested a few every month since but haven't received anything else. I've thought of giving up but I can never quite resist the thought that a miracle might occur and I might receive something else. Of course, my library ...

Best Non-fiction: Glass Castle hands down. Excellent, excellent book.
Worst Fiction: without doubt, Tipperary , enough said, except I had to finish it because it was an ER book, otherwise I wouldn't have.
Worst Non-fiction: Didn't have one, all the non-fiction I read I ...
... Hallows 3. Maisie Dodd and 4. Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear 5. Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert 6. Tipperary by Frank Delaney 7. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
I'm glad I'm not alone with disliking Tipperary . I actually had the opportunity to be sitting in Dublin on a business trip, reading what I thought would be an at-least-decent book about Ireland. Sadly, I was disappointed. I think someone likened it somewhat to Forrest Gump -- a comparison I ...
Three in progress at the moment: Tipperary by Frank Delahey, The Gathering by Anne Enright and London Bridges by James Patterson. Touchstone for The Gathering isn't working.
Finished Mudbound today (Talbin, I hope you like it as much as I did and am starting Tipperary .
... (since it was an Early Reviewer book, *I* was the one being chosen), I was really excited when I received my ER copy of Tipperary last summer, not just to get the book, but because the cover was SO LOVELY. :-)
... was very very boring in spots, especially after she left Italy and she was so whiny and self centered I couldn't stand it. Tipperary as with others listed above a huge disappointment as well. I too could not finish it. And lastly On Chesil Beach was painfully boring and I cannot imagine why ...
I am almost relieved to see Tipperary appear on some of the clunker lists here. I really thought it was me!
Unfortunately , my worst book is Luminous Cities with Tipperary a close second. Both were Early Reviewers copies. I love the programme, but the books sent to me were not the best.
Books that I was disappointed in. ( and took with on a recent trip and left in the hotel's library)

I will agree with 14 and 12 - Tipperary was also a clunker for me this year, for the reasons you stated. I found the coincidences just too much to bear.
#12 mrstreme, Tipperary sit on my TBR shelf and may getpushed to the back of the closet after readingyour comments. I have to agree with you on all the rest that you mention. I really enjoyed Ahab's Wife--for about the first half, then it just droned on. Ladder of Years was the last Anne ...

Tipperary by Frank Delaney

... reader this year, which means not too many duds. However, I did come across a few that didn't do it for me in 2007:
1) Tipperary - I received this as an early reviewer from LT. I only rated it a half-star. Clumsy narration, Forrest Gump antics on the part of the main character and a ton of ...
#25 - I actually own and have cataloged Ireland too, and requested Tipperary , and did not receive it, so I would say it's more specific than that.
I've requested books every time and only received one, an October book. It was almost worse to get disappointed this month, because once I ...
Books I didn't like are tagged "yuck!" in my library.
Currently, my yuck!s are:
Tipperary: A Novel
The Modern Girl's Guide to Life
Icy Sparks
Girl in Hyacinth Blue
The Celestine Prophecy
> 24: Tim, that is hysterical!!
I hope this is an easy question. I received a copy of Tipperary in July, and haven't written the review because I haven't finished it yet. But, I'm very close to the end, and can certainly have my review done before the Oct. 10th deadline to request from this ...
I nabbed a copy of The Pirate's Daughter (touchstone not working) - hoping that it's more to my liking than Tipperary was. :)
Finally finished Tipperary and posted my review. Just picked up In the Name of Salomé by Julia Alvarez -- but it's seeming very familiar, I think I've read it before! Hate it when that happens.
22. Tipperary by Frank Delaney. This was an Early Reviewers book. I don't think I would have stuck with it if I hadn't made the commitment to post a review. It was engaging enough but frustrating to read. My review will be posted in the ...
I'm still reading Tipperary by Frank Delaney - my early review, which is now going to be a late review. I put it aside for awhile while I read another book and had a hard time getting back into it, but now it's picking up half way through and I'm starting to really enjoy it. Also reading The ...
In addition to hanging out in Tipperary I'm also cruising around the Georgia Straits in British Columbia with M. Wylie Blanchet in The Curve of Time.
I've left Washington DC with The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears and dutifully returned to Tipperary .
... A couple of them look good to me, but I want to resist the urge to request any this time. I felt very lucky to receive Tipperary in July, but have still not finished it - I've had to work in other books in between, not to mention being busy with work, kids going back to school, kids in ...
... The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears last night - a pretty good read. Then jumped back in where I left off with Tipperary .
Also started The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson.

>24 Hiharin - I just started Beautiful Things -- I've been looking forward to it for quite awhile. I put aside Tipperary to start it, since it's due soon at the library. I'm not totally engrossed in Tipperary yet, hope to get more interested in it when I return to it. I'm also doing some light ...
In addition to still being in County Tipperary , I'm traveling the Appalachian Trail in a spring snowstorm with Bill Bryson in A Walk in the Woods.
I thought some of you may be interested to know that Tipperary received a starred review in LJ. I thought it was interesting that the majority of those reviewing on LT were less than thrilled with the book. I guess I fell somewhere in the middle. I liked it but felt it was too long -- it started ...
I'm in late 19th century and simultaneously 21st century Ireland - County Tipperary to be precise.
... Cry at the bookstore, but I have such a huge TBR I just can't bring myself to get it yet.
I'm still slogging through Tipperary . While it was tremendously delightful to get a free book through LT, I'm not finding this book delightful yet. I keep hoping it will get better 'cause the story ...
I have lent my copy of Tipperary to a friend of mine. She is interested in the Irish history- we'll talk about the story and plot line. I agree with Exvivre- there is a good story that needs editing in the book! I find it interesting that readers are divided in opinions on this book.
... I was really looking forward to this book. Frank Delaney's Ireland is an amazing novel, and I had high hopes for Tipperary as well. I have to admit, I'm rather disappointed, and haven't even been able to finish it.
Here's my review:

If you got Tipperary , I would suggest using it to level a table or prop a window open. Just a suggestion... :)
Yay! I cranked through the last half of Tipperary yesterday and this morning. If anyone's interested, my review is below:

did i miss something about when the next crop of ER books would be coming out? i just posted my review of Tipperary and i loved getting an advance copy (even if i didn't actually like the book that much). i want more!
I'm putting aside When Christ and His Saints Slept with a twinge of regret, so that I can read Tipperary and get my review up. I've been reading a little slowly recently and I'd like to be able to review before the November release date.
WOOOOHOOO! *dancing around waving book* I got Tipperary just this minute. katylit is a happy camper. What fun, must go now and start reading.
Just finished Tipperary by Frank Delaney for Early Reviewers. The book was a disappointment, however. It has some good parts and plot lines but the structure is confusing.
Just went back to The World to Come by Dara Horn and Frances Mayes's A Year in the World Journeys of a Passion ...
I just left Ireland with Tipperary by Frank Delaney and returned to Russia and the US with Dara Horn's The World to Come
(Touchstone brings up a different book!)
I finally finished Tipperary for LT's Early Reviewers, and I am so glad to be moving on to other books. I have selected Chocolat by Joanne Harris for my next read.
48) Tipperary by Frank Delaney ( review )
Tipperary is still a long long way from Vancouver Island!
My copy of Tipperary came as a bound trade paperback although it has Advanced Reader Edition on the cover and still contains editorial marks in the text. (i.e. BSM16, etc.) No graphics are contained in the edition and there is no styling to the text, which I think would likely appear in the ...
55 : Tipperary by Frank Delaney - 8/6/07-8/13/07 - 4.47
Reviewed
... good but didn't finish that way. I got bored about 80 pages into it and basically skimmed the rest. I need to continue Tipperary but its a little slow. I keep telling myself its not out until 11/07 so I have can procrastinate!. Also have to finish A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for book club.
... I'm glad you enjoyed A Southern Family. I'm sure I will, too, when I can concentrate on it. (My focus has been on Tipperary , trying to finish it for the Early Reviewers.) I just haven't sorted out all the characters in my mind yet. I love Godwin's writing, though.
... A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr - a short sweet book I should whip right through today. I need to get started on Tipperary for my Early Review, but think I'll sandwich in a re-read of To Kill a Mockingbird first, rather than do back to back male UK writers.
I'm halfway through Tipperary and, after slogging through the first 75 pages, am now finding it very engaging. I'm glad that I stuck with it. I'm also reading A Southern Family by Gail Godwin. Her writing is excellent, but there are so many characters, I'm having trouble keeping them ...
After five days of a Tipperary rut, I have abandoned it for now. I hope to finish Blindness by Jose Saramago this week instead.
... Grace (Eventually) by Anne Lamott.
If I finish The Lizard Cage, I will probably start on my early review copy of Tipperary .
Still waiting for Tipperary :-(
My Tipperary came in a trade paperback version.
#79. I was going to grab my copy of Tipperary to read it as well, but heck, it's a long way...
... World's Fair had on our society. So many things were introduced there!
I'm now reading Watership Down and just got my Tipperary book, like many of you, so I hope to start that soon.
A few of you have commented that you received Tipperary . I'll be curious to know how "it goes" for you. I have been sitting on page 126 for three days now....
I just received my early reviewer copy of Tipperary by Frank Delaney today, so am setting aside Over Sea, Under Stone for the time being.
Received my early reviewer copy of Tipperary by Frank Delaney today. Does that count?
Apparently, my copy of Tipperary arrived almost 2 weeks ago, but it was in the back of the package closet at my apartment office, and they didn't even know it was there. At least I finally have it in hand!!
I got the answer to my question above (#14) Thank you. Am thoroughly enjoying Tipperary so far.
My copy of Tipperary just arrived this morning- I'm in Toronto and the book was mailed from New York City. Looking forward to reading it!
... are supposed to be posted by the date of publication for the particular book you are reviewing. The publication date for Tipperary is listed as November 6, 2007, on Amazon.com.
Still waiting on my copy of Tipperary . *sad face*
Received my Early Reviewers copy of Tipperary . Also brought home The Samurai's Garden, passed along by my sister.
I finished The Grapes of Wrath and started The Lizard Cage. However, my early review book Tipperary arrived; I'm torn between digging into that or sticking with the Lizard Cage; the latter is for a book club, so both of them are - sort of - must-reads. And both are fairly substantial.
Ah ...
Well, I just finished Tipperary yesterday, so I'm back into Middlemarch. I am really enjoying it, but it is soooo long.
I just checked my copy of Tipperary and I too am missing those same pages--I didn't notice it until I read the entries above and checked. That's very strange. I too wonder why they were torn out. Hey anyone remember the deadline for submitting reviews? I want to be sure I don't miss it. Am ...
Just checked my Tipperary and, sure enough, pages ripped from the back. I had noticed that some of the BSM notes didn't seem to relate to any apparent need for correction. I assume those were related historical notes.
The editorial/corrections I don't care about, but it would be nice to have ...
... Gore. Really enjoyed this light, chick lit book. I needed an easy read. Now its on to my Early Reviewer book, Tipperary by Frank Delaney. So far, so good. Will be interested to see what other LT Early Reviewers think of it.
I finished my ARC of Tipperary yesterday, and I'm back in the middle of Middlemarch. I may have to set that aside for two real-life book club books, though.
Just started on reading The Nature of Monsters by Clare Clark and then will try to get started reading Tipperary by Frank Delaney.
#134 - My copy of Tipperary had no missing pages. Tell me what your last page is, and I'll tell you what you're missing.
I received Tipperary and (Not That You Asked) a few days ago via FedEx! So excited to start reading them!!
I received Tipperary and (Not That You Asked) late yesterday. Already finished the latter and am starting to work my way into the former. I started it as I was getting into bed so I think I had a hard time with the narration going back and forth but I like Delaney's previous works so I'm sure I' ...
I haven't received Tipperary yet either torontoc and library-kate. I must confess I started haunting the mail box last week and now it's the long weekend so have to wait until Tuesday before haunting again. *sigh*
It's so exciting to get a free book in the mail, and so hard to curb my ...
#4 kiwiflowa - I have March on my TBR pile. Your comment piqued my interest!
This week, I am reading Tipperary by Frank Delaney, and I really need to start and finish Blindness by Jose Saramago as it's due back to the library next weekend!
I received Tipperary by Frank Delaney from LT's Early Reviewers and Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik from PaperBackSwap. I am expecting (any day now) Chocolat by Joanne Harris and I, Elizabeth by Rosalind Miles from PaperBackSwap.
Happy Reading!
Jill
I received my book today but I got the wrong book this time. I requested and was told to expect Tipperary , but received Gifted (touchstone not available?) instead. I'm a little disappointed as I wasn't really interested in Gifted and didn't request it. Oh well, I suppose I should not look a gift ...

I got Tipperary today via FedEx!!!
I'm about 2/3 through The Grapes of Wrath and will finish it before I read Tipperary (which hasn't yet arrived). I also have The Lizard Cage waiting in the wings and need to read for a book group by the end of August; it and Tipperary are ~450 pages, which is a little daunting for me, given ...
My copy of Tipperary arrived yesterday -- and I only noticed it was stuck between my screen door/front door when I took the dogs for a walk at 10 PM.
Just finished a book last night, so I'll start this at lunch today or this afternoon.
... which is quite enjoyable so far. Hopefully, by the time I finish, I will have received my Early Reviewers selection, Tipperary by Frank Delaney.
I am anxiously awaiting that elusive Tipperary too!
I'm keeping my eye out of the UPS man, but so far, no Tipperary
No Tipperary as yet. But I have half-a-dozen things on my to-be-read pile so I probably ought not to complain.
Today I received my ARC of Tipperary by Frank Delaney for the Early Reviewers group here on LT. I also received a copy of "A Hidden Life" by Adele Geras from the publisher.
I got Tipperary as well! I am quite pleased with the result.
I got Tipperary ! Very excited and happy that Early Reviewers includes Canadians this round.
I am very excited to get a book too: Tipperary by Frank Delaney. Hang in there, everyone. I didn't get one during the first batch and lucked out for this one.
Wow. I apparently struck LT gold on this round! I'm getting Tipperary and the Steve Almond sampler. The algorithm must be working because those are the two I'd grab right off the shelf without a second thought. What's really funny is that I only checked LT today (defying my self-imposed, ...
I'm getting Tipperary too! I know how you feel Busifer, we Canadians have a joke "Not available in Canada" because so many commercials from the American tv channels used to say that. Luckily things have changed. So it's very pleasant to be included. Hopefully LT will be able to get the rest ...
