... found that Dean Koontz always trys to treat a dog well and doesn't often cause one harm in his books. I have just read The Darkest Evening of the Year by him though, again featuring lovely dogs but not the greatest book in the world. His writing seems to be changing and not for the better.

The only Dean Koontz book I've read was The Darkest Evening of the Year, and I loved the book until the last couple chapters when I felt he used a deus ex machina to save the heroes. I recently read my first Dean Koontz book, The Darkest Evening of the Year, and thought his writing talent was spectacular, but was annoyed with the sudden crap ending. I've gotten through almost all the ones I planned to, am on Eldest right ... #2 jseger9000 I'm with you on Dean Koontz. A friend gave me her copy of The Darkest Evening of the Year, and I loved it until the end. The ending was the biggest gyp in a book I've read in a long time. Now, Bentley Little IS awesome. I picked up The Store because it was on Stephe ... ... Atonement as my main book. But I'm also reading Skeleton Crew while out and about (it fit better in my pocket than The Darkest Evening of the Year did, and short stories are great for waiting rooms.) And I'm reading The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli when I want something I have to ... Just finished The Darkest Evening of the Year, and I don't get why it was called that... The first 65 chapters were phenomenal! Chapter 66 was a frickin' Deus ex Machina, and it was like, "Crap! the deadline's tomorrow! How do I tie all this up? I know! A mediocre outing from the ever more religiously inclined Mr. Koontz. The usual two-dimensional characterizations and deus ex machina plotlines allow one to cruise right through which is what this type of book was meant for.
