This is the 4th book set in Pern and takes place in the distant past in relationship to the Dragonriders of Pern trilogy.
Moreta is a story of loss, sacrifice, and heroism ... I'm finishing Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern by Anne McCaffrey and then will read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. moreta: Dragonlady of Pern by Anne McCaffrey ... Dragonquest and The White Dragon. A third YA volume, Dragondrums was published after The White Dragon but before Moreta and gives more of Piemur's back story. Robertgreaves, thank you for your post. The next Pern book I have on my To Be Read pile is Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern. I'm one of those silly people who likes to read series in the order they were published. Sorry to be a year late to the conversation. :-) I just finished Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern which was a Hugo nominee. That brings me up to 40.

I went on a Pern binge a few years back and loved it. Unfortunately, this book did not evoke the same magic for me. I'm sure that it had a lot to do with life circumstances, and with the disjointed way I read it. I will probably give it a reread in a few years ... ...
I didn't read for two whole weeks, which was very strange for me because normally I read every day. I decided to abandon Moreta for the time being and go for a comforting reread, and I am now over halfway through Gone With the Wind. ... so that I can read a couple more from my TBR and have them count toward the challenge. And with that I am off to read Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern by Anne McCaffrey! ... and I liked it right up until the ending. I will have to give it a bit more thought before writing my review.
I'm on to Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern by Anne McCaffrey now, for something completely different.

The Dragon Companion by Carole Wilkinson which is a beautiful little encyclopedia of Dragon Stories from all over the world & all through history ... ... books.
In A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay, two minor but wonderful characters come to an awful end.
In Moreta by Anne McCaffrey, I don't want to spoil it so, I'll just say that something awful happens at the end.
In both books the something awful was completely (to me) ... ... not like the rest of the books for the 70's gay stereotyping), Menolly in Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, and Moreta in Dragonlady of Pern. (Technically not Fantasy, but you can ignore the introduction about a lost colony on a remote planet and read the books as Fantasy.) Helva in The Ship ... ... which it was said that it is a SF Book Club book, an "anthology" containing Moreta and Nerilka. I guess that means it has Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern and Nerilka's Story under one cover? Is the book Moreta's Ride, which apparently came out in 2005, a reprint of Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, or a book about the song, or. . .? ... books mentioned and still consider myself a fantasy fan. I'm not a particular fan of Tolkien, I dislike McCaffrey's Pern series (though her (other) SF is better), I absolutely hated George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, I don't care for A Wrinkle In Time, etc, anymore, and I ...
