None. This book drags things out. It has interesting characters and decent plot, not used or told well. It is simply 300 pages longer than it needs to be to tell this story. While the "Mageborn Exiles" series is not as compelling as her "Dragon" series, this is one that fantasy fan should miss. Granted, I didn't like this book as much as the first "Exiles" book, but it's still a worthwhile read. Everything that one loves about Rawn's work is present here. And though it's true that we've all been waiting for a final book that may never come, I don't think anyone should pass on books 1 and 2 because of that. I and the other fans have been waiting to continue reading for 12 years now, but for several reasons including her health, Melanie Rawn still hasn't written it yet.
