Oh wow, hundreds of drawings by the Dutchman (1898-1972) many mathematicians and computer scientists would consider the greatest artist who ever lived. There's extensive how-he-did-it discussion, but it's a treat just to leaf through the color-packed pages of this large-format tome.

Visions of symmetry contains Esch r's complete set of symmetry drawings reproduced in full colour and two Escher notebooks (which contain his theory of symmetry). In all, there are more than 350 intriguing illustrations (about 80 of which have never been published.) Escher's own descriptions, translated from the Dutch, provide a fascinating glimpse into the creative mind of this renowned graphic artist. Bringing ten years experience and enthusiasm to her work, author Doris Schattschneider (co-author of the best-selling book M. C Escher Kakidocycks) focuses on Escher's creation of interlocking figures and how he used them in his finished work. ' Visions of Symmetry is a visual and intellectual presentation of M. C. Escher's theory of symmetry and the interplay of art and science, making it the ideal book for Escher enthusiasts of all stripes-artists, designers, historians, mathematicians, and scientists.
