This was a terrific book! The world of the Lords is really well written and I loved how I felt wrapped in it so very quickly. The Lords are fascinating as was the heroine Ashlyn. The end was a great twist and I read the last 100 pages in an hour since I couldn't put the story down. I will absolutely read more in this series because I need to know if the other Lords will find redemption as Maddox did. ( )

Feels like JR Ward lite. I read the second in the series first, and this book, the first of the series, made more sense to me, but still characterization is very broad stroke. It'shard to distinguish between this batch of tortured men, or to care about them reallly. Their names are better than in the Ward books (no ridiculous h or z here) but it's pretty much the same vibe. Instead of vampires, these are soldiers of ghe gods who opened pandora's box and were infected with the demons enclosed within. There were also punished b y the gods for their stupidity. And now it's 3000 or so years later and they are also slightly deranged... and into this some nublie young beauty walks in... It's okay. Not a keeper, not a ground breaker. Not a wallbanger either. First in the Lords of the Underworld Series, Maddox and his "brothers" are being punished by the Greek Gods. Each man contains a demon within them from Pandora's box. Maddox being the one who served the fatal blow to Pandora herself, has to contain Violence, the worst and most unpredictable of them all. Until he discovers a female, Ashlyn, outside their fortress, running to them for help. Maddox thinks she was sent as Bait to distract him from the Hunters following her.

Ashlyn came to Budapest to search for the "angels" that lived there to help her rid the voices in her head. The second she sees Maddox coming at her she freezes, her body freezes at the sight of a gorgeous, dangerous man threatening to kill her, and her mind freezes because she hears nothing... silence, to Ashlyn the silence is beautiful... as well as the man's violet eyes.

Maddox and Ashlyn are like oil and water, and when Maddox saves Ashlyn from dying... Ashlyn cannot think of anything else but the gorgeous man that took care of her, and what she wants to do to him... forever.

Definitely risque' and heart-felt... I truly enjoyed it. ( )

All her life, Ashlyn Darrow has been tormented by voices from the past. To end the nightmare, she has come to Budapest seeking help from men rumored to have supernatural abilities, not knowing she'll be swept into the arms of Maddox, their most dangerous member—a man trapped in a hell of his own.

Neither can resist the instant hunger that calms their torments…and ignites an irresistible passion. But every heated touch and burning kiss will edge them closer to destruction—and a soul-shattering test of love….
