This is the latest in Maggie Shayne's Wings In the Night Series about vampires. I tend to shy away from vampire romance these days, mainly because they all seem the same. However, Shayne was writing vampire romance before it was the "in" thing to do and I gladly read anything she puts out. This book introduces new vampires into the fold, along with bringing back a couple from previous books. I really liked the fact that the hero and heroine in this book were both young, born within the past few decades and were both still trying to come to terms with their powers. Seth's recently been turned into a vampire as has Vixen. However, Vixen is also a shapeshifter who can change into a fox. The conflict was great, especially once Seth found out Vixen could turn into a fox. Right after they'd had sex for the first time. From someone other than Vixen. Shayne's also done a great job setting up a new possible antagonist, although I have a feeling the same guys who have been chasing after her vampires since the mid-90s are the same guys chasing after this new group she's introduced to us. And I love that. I really do. I love the continuity. Overall, this was a really good book. ( )

I enjoyed this book very much. This is the first vampire book I have read by this author. This is not your typcial vampire book.

You have both good and evil fighting eachother but there is a twist........both sides are made up of vampires!

There are some really funny witty comments made. I will be checking out more of this author's vampire books ( )

This is the first in a new series of vampire novels by Maggie Shayne. It follows a group of "rag-tag" vampires on a mission to kill a rogue leader. The story line is interesting as it focuses on several different sub-plots and characters, instead of just the hero and heroine. A good, quick, entertaining read. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0778324974, Mass Market Paperback)

Even by vampire standards, Reaper is a loner, and his current mission to destroy a gang of rogue bloodsuckers is definitely a one-vamp job. Then fate takes a hand, and before he knows it, he's surrounded by a ragtag crew of misfit helpers: the newbie, the princess, the shape-shifter and the human healer.

Seth is new to immortality, but he's sharp and strong—and he'll risk anything for the rogues' strange female captive, a secretive creature he doesn't understand but feels compelled to save.

Vixen is confused by the emotions that swirl through her at the sight of her impulsive hero. She only hopes the brutal Gregor and his bloodthirsty renegades will leave her alive long enough to explore them.

Or will Reaper himself be the one to destroy them all?
