... as we go. It's just as well; I had forgotten loads.
Poor Mandy! I had a dog eat my Sea Star book (part of the Misty of Chincoteague series) when I was about 8. I was devastated. I think I'm still a little traumatized by the experience. ... girl books. I also loved Up and Down the River, Caddie Woodlawn, and Understood Betsy. Also, all of the horse books Misty of Chincoteague, etc. In fact, I was a horse for a year or two... ... many Biblical stories, and Aesops Fables.
Most of my fondest very early reads also were not particularly global (Misty of Chincoteague, the Black Stallion, Indian Paint - yes, there is a theme there). But I have a strong memory of Heidi and The Swiss Family Robinson - perhaps ... ... remember Snip, Snap and Snurr with fondness, as well as The Dutchess Bakes a Cake.
I read Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and Misty of Chincoteague in grade school by myself.
I recited Wynken, Byinken, and Nod to my daughter at bedtime every single night for about two years.
What great ... i was thinking about Marguerite Henry, too. trouble is, Misty of Chincoteague is not about mustangs, but about wild ponies on an island in virginia--so depending on how accurate your (missylc) memory is about it being on the plains... plus, misty lives with a family.
on the other hand, i ... It's been years since I've read it, but your description for book #2 reminds me of Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry. If not that, check out some of her other books---she was the author of horse books for quite awhile. ... Gruelle. I still have a charming little book called, "Scat, Scat" by Sally R. Francis about a lost kitten. "Misty of Chincoteague" by Marguerite Henry was another book that I read again and again. And I am not ashamed to admit that I still read and enjoy "The Sneetches" by ... ... I remember being a bit scared of the witch at that age, but otherwise I loved them. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Misty of Chincoteague if she likes horse stories, One-Hundred One Dalmations (the Dodie Smith original, not the Disney version) is a great read-aloud if she can get ... ... series that I devoured when I was about six years old! I was also a big fan of the Marguerite Henry books (ie. Misty of Chincoteague) along with other random novels, like Island of the Blue Dolphins, Poppy, and Matilda. ... no one has talked! All the groups about animals seem to never get anywhere.
My favorite may well be Black Beauty, but Misty of Chincoteague is a close second, along with its sequels. Brighty of the Grand Canyon is about a burro instead of a horse, but I love it.
And I also love The Mi ... ... illows

... high (which translates to grades 6-8 in Florida), but I did a lot of extracurricular reading on my own. I read Pinballs, Misty of Chincoteague, Sea Star - Orphan of Chicoteague, Stormy - Misty's Foal, all by Marguerite Henry; I also read everything by Paula Danziger and Paul Zindel ... Ahhhh...Virginia. I've been waiting on that one ;o)
Misty of Chincoteague...
Having lived on Chincoteague for a year or so, I feel obliged to mention it, even if I've never read it. Misty of Chincoteague? I loved that one in my horsey phase. ... incomplete.
Prince Edward Island and Chincoteague have each made a minor industry out of Anne of Green Gables and Misty of Chincoteague, and each are places I remember fondly as a kid!
