Holy cow, what an ending! Brad Thor has never really done cliffhanger endings before, so this one was a fantastic surprise. I can't wait for his next installment. This was most certainly Thor's best book yet and exceedingly scary in its potential reality--urban warfare in New York City between American Special Ops and radical Muslims (and not just Arabs, at that!). As a big Vince Flynn fan, I was reluctant to read Brad Thor as I didn't want a "copy-cat" author to preempt my enjoyment of Flynn. I'm finding, however, that my enjoyment of Thor's novels is surpassing my love of Flynn's. The stories are so relevant to today's terrorism and the "big picture" of cross-national threats that radical Islam, secretive governments, and mercenary billionaires make up. Another great thriller. An excellent story, highlighting the nightmare that terrorism has become and the despicable means employed to stop it, but never becoming either cheerleader or preacher. The story threads are well developed, but it is the ending that made this book for me. ( )

Fast paced action. Good story. Interesting characters. I liked it a lot. ( )

Another enjoyable entry in the Scot Harvath series, I enjoyed Takedown very much. However, more than any other book that I've read recently, this one left me with the feeling that it could have been so much better. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0743271181, Hardcover)

After years without a terrorist attack on American soil, one group has picked the 4th of July weekend to pull out all the stops. In a perfectly executed attack, all of the bridges and tunnels leading into and out of Manhattan are destroyed just as thousands of commuters begin their holiday exodus. With domestic efforts focused on search and rescue, a deadly team of highly trained foreign soldiers methodically makes its way through the city with the singular objective of locating one of their own -- a man so powerful that America will do anything to keep him hidden.

Scot Harvath is now the country's only hope. Fighting his way through the burning streets of Manhattan, he must mount his own operation to locate a man the United States government refuses to admit even exists.
