I LOVE this book and I wish she'd write more. Working-class small-town bleakness; the general shittiness of being a young woman, holes to fill metaphorical and literal, etc. My only complaint is that it's so brief & over so soon. You'll read it in a sitting but it's completely worthwhile. Recommended if you like Jean Rhys, Lynda Barry, Joan Didion, Beth Nugent, all those sad-eyed ladies of the lowest lands.

A startlingly sexy first novel that has been greeted with resounding acclaim. Swimming Sweet Arrow unfolds a tale of friendship, passion, and survival that few readers will soon forget. The novels fresh and explicit voice will appeal to readers who enjoyed Dorothy Allisons Bastard Out of Carolina and Tawni ODells Back Roads.
