... nd! My favourite book of short stories though is For Esme with love and squalor by J.D. Salinger, which is also know as Nine Stories in some parts of the world. I'm a big fan of the title story, but the story that I have read the most times would be 'De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period'. I never ...

... that while I enjoy everything he writes because I like his style, Catcher is by no means up there with his other books like Nine Stories or Franny and Zooey. However, I do not think he was aiming the book at young adults, for the simple reason that Holden does not think like a young adult. Mayb ...

... Animal Farm. And I was definitely teary-eyed when I read For Esme With Love and Squalor - a short story from Salinger's Nine Stories. That's pretty much it :) How about you?

... Salinger is one of my favorite (if not my favorite) writers! I would definitely recommend more books by him, particularly Nine Stories, if you're into short stories. The Glass Menagerie is also the only play I've read by Williams and I agree with you that the stage directions really did ...

... good place to start maybe, though by no means his best work. If you like short stories I would absolutely urge you to read Nine Stories. Also, for me, Franny and Zooey was life-changing.

Seymour Glass kills himself in A Perfect Day for Bananafish. Again, I'm including Salinger among the classics.

Just received Nine stories by J.D. Salinger and Brazzaville beach by William Boyd by mail. The last one was an LT recommendation.

31. Nine Stories - J.D. Salinger : I'm a huge Salinger fan, so to me this was superb. My favorite bits were 'A Perfect Day for Bananafish,' 'Just Before the War With Eskimos,' 'For Esme-- with Love and Squalor,' and 'Teddy.'

... Many of J. D. Salinger's characters, including Holden Caulfield and possibly Jane Galligher seem to me to be INFPs. From Salinger's Nine Stories, I would include Teddy, Seymour, Buddy, Franny, Sergeant X from "Esme" I think many of Charles Dickens' main characters may also be INFPs. I' ...

#20: Ah, that reminds me--JD Salinger's short story "De Daumier Smith's Blue Period" from Nine Stories. One of my favorite short stories ever. "I think I was afraid I might get over to his desk only to report, shrilly: 'My mother's dead, and I have to live with her charming husband, and nobody ...

I suggest Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger, since you've got a couple of his other books in your catalogue. I read it late last year and just loved it.

Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger

#28 inkdrinker: we named our daughter Esmé, not specifically after the Esmé in Salinger's For Esme-with love and squalor, and Other Stories, but at the same time I probably had her in mind. We've got a boy on the way now who we'll probably name Eliot.

I'd also like to recommend Nine Stories, which contains some of Salinger's best work. He always was best in the short story form.

#46 I'm 21, so maybe it's a generational thing. While I logically know that Nine Stories is superior, Catcher in the Rye managed to perfectly capture how much being a teenager sucks - in the most beautiful, heartbreaking, and funny way possible. I used to be able to recite most of it from ...
