This could have been an interesting book as Pope John Paul II narrates his ascent to the papacy and his work in that office. Instead of focusing on his own story, John Paul constantly gets sidetracked with describing in detail the duties and responsibilities of church officials as well as the intricacies of Roman ceremony.
