We received this board book as a gift, and I'm glad we did. My daughter loves Sesame Street, so this story won her heart by its familiar characters, but it won her parent's heart by its fun focus on counting. Elmo and Ernie take a walk and encounter a variety of animals; coincidentally, they all arrive in groups that increase by one each time. One elephant, two tigers, and so on. At the end, Ernie and Elmo are surrounded by what they call "an animal party", and invite the reader to count the animals they see. The premise is uncomplicated, which is fine, because it is all about learning numbers. The familiar Sesame Street characters and the bright illustrations will draw a young reader's attention and engage them in learning how to count. Throwing in some animal sounds doesn't heart, either. If your child likes Sesame Street, then by all means, make use of the educational resources that are published by that company. Like this book, they just work with kids. ( )
