"Darkling" is narrated by Menolly, a vampire who is also part fae/part human. Her sisters are also special...Camille is a witch and Delilah is a shifter who can change into a panther or a tabby cat. In "Darkling" Menolly finds out that her sire Dredge has been leading his band vampires into turning many citizens and then abandoning them. The new vamps wake up confused and in bloodlust, without a sire's guidance. They kill without thought. Menolly turns to her friends and family to try to find these vamps and put a stop to their games before the general population finds out and breaks into hysteria. Menolly was turned by Dredge against her will when she was kidnapped, raped and tortured by him, so she has always been eager for revenge. Now may be the perfect chance to make him pay, but first she must sever the tie between them, an invisible bond between sire and child. Menolly has to go into the Otherword and face her personl demons before she can have a chance to kill Dredge. Menolly ties for my favorite D'Artigo sister (with Delilah!) and I love the cast of entertaining, interesting side characters, espcially Iris and the baby gargoyle Maggie. I am a little annoyed by the fact that all the sisters have multiple lovers. It seems unrealistic to believe that while all three have several lovers (Camille has three!), none of their lovers seem to have any other women! While it is not gross like it is in the Anita Blake books, it still feels very gratuitous. Still it doesn't detract too much from the story, and the plot lines are always very well thought out and put together. There is a nice sense of resolution in the book but enough dangling threads to keep you hanging on for the next installment. ( )Third book in the series, told from the youngest sister's perspective. (Looks like the fourth will be going back to the oldest's.) It was good. The fight continues & we learn more about the family from Menolly. She's a vampire & takes the lead as they battle her creator. The story line is very similar to the other two. I don't have the fourth book & don't mind waiting a while to get it. It's not a bad story, but it's also not compelling or different enough to make me want to run out & get the next. 2.5 stars is more accurate. It's important to read this series in order. I appreciate that the author doesn't drag us down with a lot of recapping, but there is enough to provide spoilers that would harm the suspense in the other books. Again, Galenorn outdoes herself in developing her characters. The D'Artigo sisters relationships between each other and others shows both their dark sides along with their softer, caring sides. This book focuses on Menolly, the half-human-half-fey-turned-vampire sister. She is a very complex person due to her torture, turning, and deep rooted values that her sire was unable to change. Another favorite! Darkling was a thrill to read. When I read the first in the series, Witchling, I fell in love with Camille; when I read the second in the series, Changling, I fell in love with Delilah and thought that she was my favorite sister. Then along comes the dark and twisting Darkling. Now it feels as though Menolly is my favorite sister. Each book changes vantage points between sisters, and Galenorn has discovered the secret to making it work, and has made it work phenomenally. The storyline in Darkling is lighter than that of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, but still dark enough that you know not everything is peachy keen. Galenorn shows us that everyone has their own personal demons to handle, and that life isn't always about what is fair. I greatly look forward to reading the next in the Sisters of the Moon series, and discovering more about the world woven in the story and more about the delightfully sexy ass kicking D'Artigo Sisters! Third in the Sisters of the Moon series. This one is narrated by Menolly, who is half-human, half-fey, and now all vampire. She was tortured and murdered 12 years ago, but her murderer was a vampire who turned her. In this book she and her sister Camille go to the City of Seers, seeking help in their battle against unknown enemies. There Menolly finds healing from her emotional wounds. So far I've liked this one the best in the series. The scenes set in the City of Seers are wonderfully imaginative, and the delving into Menolly's pain is well, sometimes even lyrically, handled. no reviews | add a review
