Not a full book, just a posthumously printed collection that wasn't completed. Read aloud to the boys in the car. ( )

This book was the final one in the Little House series and it was a really excellent way to finish off the journey many readers had been on reading the entire collection of books. The book itself explains what happens to Laura following the marriage of she and her husband, Almanzo. During this time a lot of wonderful things happen, such as the birth of her first child, but a lot of tragic things as well. such as her husband growing ill and ultimately permanently disabled. It is much darker than most of her stories, but still has a good overall message about resilience and family. As with the others, this book is a good way of teaching children how much more difficult life was back then. The tragedies that Laura and her family faced were one that aren't even thought of today, simply because technology has advanced so much. The pictures are good frames of reference as well, because, some of the things she faced are ones that this generation of children can't even imagine. ( )

I wasn't as impressed with her stories of life as grown-up -- suppose because I was a child. ( )
