... The Women has been on my list for awhile! I love Boyle's writing. I've read The Inner Circle about Alfred Kinsey and Drop City which was a masterpiece! > SqueakyChu- I wasn't aware that Boyle had a short story collection! I would think it would be very good! BTW, I loved Brooklyn!

Finished The Space Merchants by Frederik Pohl and now reading Drop City by T. C. Boyle.

... even having to write down who all the characters were and what their relationship to each other was. Yeah. I liked Drop City. It wasn't the period in history so much that upset me about Push Comes to Shove. It was more that, in the late 60s-early 70s, I (as a young white Jewish female) ...

... the author pulls things together. Otherwise, very nice review. I remember having similar feelings about T.C. Boyle's Drop City (and I think it's because like you I may not have liked seeing the ugly side of a period in history that I liked).

ETA -- deleted the accidental double post.

Your description reminds me of Drop City, but that was published within the last ten years.

... of the life of Frank Lloyd Wright from the perspective of his wives and mistress. I prefer Boyle's straight fiction (Drop City in particular is excellent), but after a slow start "The Women" is pretty decent.

... little dry. I never finished The road to Wellville, but I think I dragged myself to the very end with The inner circle. Drop city I enjoyed every work of though. #87: I will see if I can find Drop City as well then, too. Thanks!

Alcottacre - I think Drop City is still my favourite of his. Whisper - I haven't read that one yet. I'm in the UK and I don't think it out here until later this year. Dchaikin - thank you!

>187: LouisBranning- Drop City was easily one of the best books I've read in the past decade but I've sadly neglected this powerful writer. I've had the Inner Circle sitting in my tbr for ever! Should this be the one I read next or should I tackle something else?

#14> freelunch, I did give up on Drop City only a few chapters in. It just didn't grab me. I might just pass The Road to Wellville on as well, it might turn up in the Oz VBB one day soon... Still reading and *loving* Fingersmith. I'd say it's the best book I've read all year, but it's far ...

I'm loving Kristin Lavransdatter, struggling with Bleak House (don't hate it, it's just going slow), enjoying Drop City as a side project, getting woefully distracted by Breaking Dawn (yes, I am ashamed!), being educated by Guns, Germs and Steel and stepping around The Double Helix (whic ...

#111, 112: The Road to Wellville is very entertaining, one of Boyle's most under-rated novels, and Drop City's terrific too, an NBA nominee when it came out.

Drop City by T.C. Boyle is certainly a favorite of mine. Decades ago I used to live on land adjacent to similar characters in a forest in the Pacific Northwest. Can't say that I miss them, though.
