Retelling: This book covers the history of deep sea diving, including major advances in technology.

Thoughts and Feelings:
I remember swimming in a lake as a little girl, looking down at the mucky water below and considering holding my breath and exploring. Then my imagination would invent all kinds of terrible creatures with large teeth and I would reconsider. When I turned 14, though, I determined that this was a fear worth getting over. I learned to dive, and it was the single most amazing experience of my life. Reading this book reminded me of the terrifying thrill of exploring places on earth where human beings are biologically ill-equip to inhabit and the ingenuity that allowed me to do it.
