I'm surprised I was able to get this in the Nevada library system. It came ILL from Mineral County - look it up if you like, or just take me word for it that ice-fishing is not particularly indigenous to the area....

Otoh, I'm sure this book is a hit in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Maine. I enjoyed the humor and the drawings and the lesson. I'm not so sure Ivan and Olaf would learn their lesson so easily, and I'm a little uncomfortable with the fish being that ridiculously smart, but it's a worthy read if your library has it. Probably works best if read with the same perspective/ attitude as one would read a Tall Tale. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0060275928, Hardcover)

In this hilarious story of good-natured rivalry and ice fishing, Ivan and Olaf are two best friends whose urge to compete with each other is matched only by their desire to catch the biggest fish in all of Moosehead Lake -- the legendary Methuselah. But Methuselah isn't just the biggest fish in Moosehead Lake, he's also the smartest, and when Ivan and Olaf take their one-upmanship too far, he decides it's time the bickering buddies were taught a lesson. The slapstick comedy and droll exaggeration of both the text and the superb watercolors are sure to reel in fans young and old!

(retrieved from Amazon Thu, 12 Mar 2015 18:03:25 -0400)

After having competed with each other in everything and been outwitted by Methuselah, best friends Ivan and Olaf finally find something on which they can cooperate.
