These are intricate designs that explode out of the page at you. Some of the coloring is off. Most of the pages are a bit delicate for the grabbing hands of the little ones who want to read it and turn the pages. These are NOT the pop-up books I grew up with! Each of the 6 pages are PACKED with fold outs and really sophisticated pop-ups - really detailed and extremely clever - amazing! Even a pair of light sabers light up! Fascinating book (and the series is fantastic - Reinhart is a genius)
Calling this sophisticated piece of engineering a “pop-up book” is like calling the Great Wall of China a partition. Reinhart doesn’t fill pages from left to right like a normal author. He fills them upward and outward in three-dimensional space. He engineers enormous, elaborate tagboard sculptures with hundreds of parts that precisely interact as they rise from the book.
