I liked the first book (Graceling), but I REALLY liked Fire even more. While reading this, I was thinking about the Wizard of OZ. There was something about this book that really reminded me of the movie. The descriptions were so intense, I could picture the colors as vividly as watching the movie. Fire is such a wonderful female character that shows real depth and emotion. I was sorry this one had to end.
The story is appropriate for younger teens and I think everyone would enjoy this book. The cover nicely depicts the core of the story as the bow and arrow come back again and again in the tale. ( )

Megan, a senior in high school, narrates how she spent her summer vacation in a series of journal entries for her Honors English class. Megan’s voluptuous body developed in the fifth grade, and her since then boys have not stopped looking at her chest – she does not remember when was the last time that a boy looked into her eyes-. Megan wears baggy shirts to conceal her breasts and considers having a breast reduction surgery (without her parents’ knowledge). Her job at the Pancake Palace gives her opportunity to work with her longtime crush (Jake), and she wonders if he likes her for herself or for her breasts. The story explores Megan’s journal entries are poignant and funny as she explores body image issues, how they affect Megan’s relationship with Jake, and her budding sexuality. ( )

Hilarious chick lit. I loved this one. Unfortunately the cover is great in a bookstore, but not so good in a high school. Even the author's name is in an, ahem, appropriate place.

In a series of papers for Honors English, a senior girl relates the difficulties of being blessed with a voluptuous body that began appearing in fifth grade. ( )
