Totally offensive, but amusing in an "I can't believe I'm reading this" sort of way. I wouldn't read this more than once, and I'd never want to own it. As recommendations go, I'd say this is ideal for college-age students (younger boys would find it hilarious but might actually internalize some of this garbage). ( )

A mildly humorous book of misogynistic comedy. If you like his website, you will most likely enjoy Maddox's book, written in the same vein. Although it sometimes is a bit repetitive, it's a quick, short read with many superficial laughs. ( )

An amusing tell all book on men and how they think. It was disgusting and bias but was so funny. I laughed out loud through most of the book. And yes, I am a female. ( )

Say whatever dastardly things you want about the mystery man that is Maddox. I literally spit my drink everywhere laughing the day I discovered his website and his graded analysis of children's artwork. This alphabet doesn't let you down. I flipped to the back cover and he had placed several colorful angry posts from folks who hate him. Nice. Anyway, I enjoy this and keep in in the guest bathroom. More people ask me about the book that way... ( )

In the new swarm of internet writers turned authors, Maddox definately takes the cake. Although it's a quick read this book really lifted my spirits. ( )

Sexist, racist, mean, cruel, and sometimes evil. BUT hilarious. Guide on how to be manly. Diagrams, pictures and charts to explain it all. Read it for a quick laugh. ( )

You either love Maddox or you hate him. Or you do both, possibly one more than the other, and it's prone to fluctuate. Personally, I think he's hilarious, and so is this book. ( )

If you don't already know Maddox, you really have no business reading this review, much less his book, so go away. The rest of you have already spent some time at his website, www.thebestpageintheuniverse.com, and know who I'm talking about.

Myself, I stumbled across him several years ago in the form of his essay about how crappy children art is. I hadn't read anything quite that funny in a long time and I remember rolling on the floor in the most metaphorical of senses.

In the years since, I have visited and re-visited his website often and though he only posts the occasional article these days (seemingly more and more infrequently), I often go back and re-read the classics. I have to admit that it's his criticism of the world around him that make me laugh the most, for instance: his reasons for hating Cameron Diaz, Star Wars Episode III, Garfield, Astrology, Chris Reeve, etc. The list is almost endless and can offer hours of fun.

His sarcastic wit is the source of my enjoyment. His intelligence is the icing on the cake. If he were a moron who couldn't string two intelligent sentences together, he would never have gotten so popular; however, it's just that type of moron who finds so much offensive by Maddox's particular style of satire that they write in to tell him how much they hate him. These he posts in his "Hate Mail" section, along with his shredding responses.

Here's one, culled from the recesses of my brain (though I'm sure you could find it on his site if you looked hard enough):

To: Maddox
From: Moron
Every night I pray to Jesus to kill you.

So, okay, he cracks me up, on his website at least. His book was another story. Funny, yes, still good satire, still wonderfully sarcastic, but I never thought the best parts of his writing were his thoughts on manliness. And that's all this book was. Some sections were better than others (see: N for Chuck Norris), but mostly it was just average fare. I would have enjoyed it more if he did what he does best: hate on stupid people.

Maddox's fans (like me) will probably pick up this book and find something to enjoy in it, but after spending $15 on the book, I find the free text on his website much more enjoyable.
