Great illustrations with word bubbles. I love the pig's face when he says "they're in love". The elephants reactions to the "straight man" pig are fun, and elicit a reaction. There is a Bird on Your Head has a funny ending, and helps kids to learn that they can ask when they get frustrated. ( )

Move over Frog and Toad… make room for George Elephant and Piggie as the new best friends on the easy-reader block! Willems, winner of multiple Caldecott honor awards, and creator of the beloved Pigeon and Knuffle Bunny series, introduces young readers to two friends who couldn’t be more different but who couldn’t do without each other. Elephant tends to be a little grumpy, which contrasts humorously Piggie’s sunshiny optimism. So when Elephant discovers not one bird, but two birds on his head, and then not one egg, but three eggs in a nest on his head, good old Piggie helps him see the bright side of things.

Willems’ cartoons are set against large white spaces that draw young readers to the amusing physical comedy of Elephant and the speech bubbles conveying the text. This is not the-fat-cat-sat-on-a-mat kind of beginning reader—thank goodness! This is beginning text at its finest: a story that finds the perfect balance between easy reading level and engaging story

I think that this is a great book for beginner readers. The sentences are short and should be a easy read for beginner readers. This story is about an elephant and a pig who has totally different personalities. As this friends team together to solve the problem of a bird building a home on the elephant's head, I think the students will learn to compare and contrast their personalities.

Elephant has a problem: a bird is on his head making a home! Can he and pal Piggie solve the problem? Another charmer from celebrated author and illustrator Mo Willems. Willems' illustrations are deceptively simple-- the nuance he manages to create with just a few lines on an eyebrow or a wrinkle on a nose help young readers develop a sophisticated palate for emotional awareness. But of course, Elephant and Piggy give their fair share of big gags and bigger laughs. Color-coded speech and thought bubbles help new and pre-readers follow the words, and the pictures parallel and complement the text without any sense of redundancy. Very good for visual learners, for kids who like animation, and a great way to introduce young kids who don't like to read to the joys that books can bring. ( )

In this book the elephant gets a bird on his head. Then two birds, then a nest, and finally the baby birds that have hatched. The elephant gets upset and Piggie suggest he ask them to leave. Whe he does the birds move to Piggie's head.
