While the Tall, Dark, & Dangerous books are definitely formula books, the characters kinda suck you in. ( ) Taylor's Temptation by Suzanne Brockmann TDD #10 Bobby Taylor & Colleen Skelly Navy Chiefs Bobby Taylor and Wes Skelly are best friends who practically read each others' minds--they are closer than brothers. Their teamwork is legendary. Wes is called OCONUS for an op right after hearing that his little sister has volunteered to visit an orphanage in war-torn and terrorist-ridden Tulgeria in just a few days. He begs Bobby to travel to Massachusetts to talk her out of going on the trip. Bobby's had a thing for Colleen Skelly for years and knows it is going to be difficult being around her without giving away his feelings. He has no idea how difficult, especially since she's been in love with him as well and she's not too timid to go after what she wants. The conflict in this story centers around how Wes will take it. Bobby feels like he's betraying his best friend but he learns quickly that he loves Colleen and can't stay away from her even though it stretches his friendship with Wes to the breaking point. The resolution is handled well and creates interest in Wes' future happy ending. (Probably more of a 3 1/2 stars....) Taylor's story was pretty good; the falling in love with best friend's sister storyline is always good for angst. It's just that both Taylor and Colleen seemed to be a bit too clueless for too long about too many things (Colleen about why Taylor was hesitating--seriously, best friend's little sister? You don't have to be Einstein to figure that one out--both of them about their true motivations and feelings, etc.) but overall it was a quick, enjoyable read. Now, on to Wes's story! Fun. The way she calculatedly attacks him - poor Bobby. I can definitely see both his and Wes's point of view here - Colleen's is a little harder to get into. She doesn't seem to be thinking ahead at all - just 'here's my chance, grab it'. Later on she starts to figure out what she's done - but the problem at the orphanage and the trip itself rather distract, and before she really gets it the problem is over. For once, it's the woman who gets away too easily with stupid behavior (romances frequently have the men skinning out of disastrous choices way too easily). Good story, though - both their interaction and the background situation are vividly drawn (well, it is a Brockmann). DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: Can he protect the woman he can't resist? Protecting the innocent is Navy SEAL Bobby Taylor's passion. That's why his best friend asked him to look out for his little sister, Colleen. Except that Colleen's all grown up now, which has Bobby wanting to do so much more than keep her safeā¦ no reviews | add a review
